To give you an idea of what the song might be about without spoiling it -or misinterpreting the message- I think it is about how we cope with change as change is a constant whether we like it or not. Will we leave behind our ghosts for the next generation to have to live with? The point is driven home further when his son, Lachlan takes the mic and lays it out very plainly for us at the end of the track which I think is a nice touch to end on. It is beautiful!
Ghosts is marked with some lo-fi tonality, and a mellow rhythm. The way the vocal tracks are layered works really well for this type of sound, too. It adds a new layer of harmony to the entire song, especially when the thin saw synth starts hitting the higher registers.
The accent guitar strumming fits in so perfectly alongside the synths and the modular, echoed singing. This music makes me want to cruise, bike, or skate along to the beat.
I am impressed with every aspect of this new single. I was already a fan of his previous releases and I can't want to see what he comes up with next! Get excited!
